Keep Calm & Keep Humidity Controlled

When it comes to managing environments for mission critical applications, the discussion often surrounds precision cooling. However, in addition to temperature, controlling humidity is essential. From eliminating static electricity to preserving works of art, there are as many benefits of humidity control as there are unique applications.

Keep It Stable

Laboratories, for example, depend on precise relative humidity (RH) for productivity, efficiency, and safety. Research and high-tech production needs to be carried out in stable, controlled environments. Therefore, clean rooms are designed to be free of dust and other contaminants in creating sensitive material. If the appropriate humidity levels are not met, the experiment results would be worthless or the production process would be delayed, both of which are costly outcomes. Humidifying these rooms in a consistent manner that adheres to Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) standards maximizes operational output.

Keep It Hygienic   

Controlling humidity levels also reduces unwanted bacteria. Employees in clean rooms that produce pharmaceutical products and medical equipment, for example, will most likely stay healthy in properly humidified rooms. This has become increasingly critical in the wake of the Covid 19 pandemic. Clean rooms used to make Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) demand a bacteria-free environment, and the employees who work there depend on the absence of viruses, fungi, mold, mites, other airborne microbes, allergens, and pollutants that not only compromise products, but can compromise health.

In the case of manufacturing, such critical environments rely on product quality and material consistency. Proper humidity protects against conditions that are too moist or two dry, and eliminates problems like short-outs, cracking, drying, wrinkling, and other forms of product damage. As a result, optimal humidification increases quality and decreases product waste. This saves a manufacturing business time and money.

Grow rooms also rely on humidity regulation. The indoor agriculture and farming industry must create ideal growing conditions for plants all day, every day. Reversing the process of photosynthesis, plants turn sugars into energy for growth through respiration, which requires just the right amount of soil moisture. Then, water in the roots is pulled through the plant by transpiration, resulting in the loss of water vapor through the plant’s leaves. As the plants transpire, if the humidity in the grow room is too high, mildew and other diseases are likely to occur.
